Join us for a Day Trip in 2017

We are pleased to bring you our 2017 Autumn/Winter Day Tours Programme. We have tried to include a variety of days out and Seasonal Trips – we hope you will find something of interest and you can join us for a day away.

We will continue to offer pick ups in Backwell, Nailsea, Portishead & Clevedon. Please see details below of pick up points and times. All tours will depart at the same time. (Except where marked otherwise – Our office will confirm times).

Bookings can be made by telephone – Monday to Friday from 10am to 12noon only, or by email. Seats can be booked with our staff and payments can be made by cheque or cash on the day of the trip. All seats are one price. All entrance charges are included.

We intend to operate trips using our 35 seater coach, but if numbers booked for trips are less, we may operate the trip using a 22, 19 or 16 seater. All
are modern mini coaches with full air conditioning etc.

Groups – If you have a group of 8 or more people wishing to travel, we can arrange a pick up to suit you. Please ask our staff for details.

Cancellations – We would appreciate as much notice as possible if you wish to cancel a trip. If you have to cancel 5 days or less, before the trip, we are sorry but we have to start making a cancellation charge. This will be the full cost of the tour. Should your cancellation be received, prior to the 5 days but after we have paid any entrance charges, we will have to make a Cancellation Charge to you to cover the entrances.

Wed 2nd Brecon Mountain Railway & Llancaiach Fawr Manor
We travel to Pant Station where we board the train for our journey on the stunning Brecon Mountain Railway travelling along the full length of the Pontsticill Reservoir to Torpantau high in the Brecon Beacons. An afternoon visit to the unique Llancaiach Fawr Manor. This superbly restored grade 1 listed gentry manor house is no ordinary heritage attraction. History here is tangible. The costumed servants of the house are living and working in 1645 and allow you to share and engage in their world.

Tue 8th Salisbury on Market Day
With its majestic Cathedral, cathedral close, medieval walls and half-timbered Tudor Town Houses Salisbury is a lovely city to explore. Our visit today co-insides with market day.
Thur 10th Stanway House & Fountain and Cheltenham
This morning we visit the Regency Spa town of Cheltenham with its excellent High Street shops and independent shopping quarters. This afternoon we visit Stanway House, a beautiful Jacobean Manor House with Water garden and a single-jet fountain, the highest in Britain and the highest gravity fountain in the world.
Sun 13th River Dart Tour – River Cruise and Steam Train
We travel to Totnes where we join the boat for our 1 1/2 hour River Dart Cruise to Dartmouth. Free time to explore Dartmouth. Ferry across the river to Kingswear and board the Steam Train to Paignton to re join our coach.

Wed 16th Exmouth and River Exe Boat Cruise
Today we visit Exmouth, one of the most picturesque resorts on the south coast. Situated at the mouth of the beautiful Exe estuary and at the very beginning of the Jurassic Coast.

After time to explore at leisure we join our boat for our River Exe Cruise.

Thur 17th Weymouth
Lovely Dorset Seaside Resort – 3 miles of golden beaches, town centre and harbour to explore.
Tues 22nd Isle of Purbeck – Swanage Railway and Swanage
Steam through Dorset’s Isle of Purbeck on a nostalgic journey through beautiful countryside with stunning views of the iconic remains of William the Conqueror’s Corfe Castle to Swanage.

Here you will have time to explore the town, beaches and pier at your leisure.

Tues 29th Bournemouth
Seven miles of golden sands and sparkling sea and a vast variety of shops and restaurants. The cosmopolitan town of Bournemouth has it all.

Sun 3rd Severn Valley Railway

Take a journey back in time with us today on board a vintage steam-hauled train as it meanders its way from Kidderminster to the ancient riverside town of Bridgnorth. The train will pass through the town of Bewdley, with its quaint quayside, gardens and lovely Georgian architecture, then it’s on through the Worcestershire and Shropshire countryside as the Railway hugs the Severn Valley. There will be free time to explore Brignorth, before we rejoin our train for the return journey to Kidderminster.

A visit to this poplar market in Dorchester and free time in the lovely seaside resort of Weymouth.
Tues 12th Richmond Poppy Factory Tour with lunch, London
Have you ever wondered where remembrance wreaths and poppies are made? The Poppy Factory was established in 1922 as an independent charity to provide employment for disabled servicemen after the First World War. We enjoy an included 2 course lunch consisting of a main meal and sweet followed by a 2 hour tour in the company of your guide as you walk through the Poppy Factory.

Wed 20th Royal Mint Llantrisant & Cardiff
Discover the Royal Mint with us, as we go behind the scenes to follow the journey of a coin, from blank to bank. Learn about the people and events behind the coins in your pocket, and hear some surprising stories. The Royal Mint puts 1,000 years of history into combining the finest craftsmanship with cutting-edge techniques to make coins and medals for over 60 countries. There will be time for you to get some lunch before departing for our afternoon visit to the City of Cardiff, where there will free time to explore at leisure.

A visit to Chepstow, with its magnificent Norman castle and High Street to explore. We continue to Norchard Station with time to get lunch, explore the shop and museum before joining our Steam Train for our 1 1/2 hour journey on the Dean Forest Railway.

Take in the lovely scenery of the Dorset coast with a visit to the seaside resort of Weymouth and a short afternoon stop at West Bay – filming location for Broadchurch.
Wed 18th Windsor Castle After The Fire

For 2017 only, Windsor Castle are giving visitors the chance to learn more about the devastating fire at Windsor Castle in 1992 and the return to magnificence that followed. This special visit begins in the Castle’s Winchester Tower with refreshments and an expert talk. We will hear the dramatic story of the battle to stop the flames & save irreplaceable works of art from the Royal Collection.

Following the talk, which lasts 1 1/2 hours you can then enjoy the State Apartments with a multimedia tour, at your leisure, including areas transformed after the fire through the award winning restoration work.

A visit into Wales for a visit to the popular Welsh Market in Abergavenny and a drive along the scenic Wye Valley.

The Cardiff Christmas Markets returns again this year in the pedestrian streets of the City Centre. Running for over 20 years, a true arts and craft event with an eclectic mix of stalls.
Sun 26th Exeter Christmas Shopping and Christmas Fayre on Cathedral Green
In the picturesque setting in the shadow of the iconic and majestic City Cathedral, this special seasonal market, is atmospheric and enjoyable. With stalls offering unique, handmade and unusual gifts, decorations and food items – everything needed for a perfect Christmas celebration. Perhaps also explore the Princesshay with over 70 shops covering the best of the High Street names as well as specialist and independent shops.

A Dickensian Festive Feast featuring 150 stalls selling gifts, clothes & accessories. Enjoy live Music and much more, all set against the backdrop of the City’s historic docks.

Fri 1st Dunster by Candlelight (Evening)
Join us for a Seasonal visit to the charming medieval village of Dunster, overlooked by its impressive castle. Enjoy the Lantern Lighting Procession, which marks the beginning of the festival at 5.30. The procession starts at The Steep and continues through the village until all the lanterns in the streets have been lit. The procession is accompanied by colourful (and tall!) Stilt walkers in fantastic costumes who put up the lanterns. Plenty of festive historic entertainment, including Carol Singers, Morris Dancers and Hand Bell ringers to enjoy and the local businesses and stalls will be open for late night shopping.

A programme of Events is included. We will leave our area in the afternoon and return late evening. There is no parking in Dunster this evening so the event organises a shuttle bus service from Minehead – the cost is included. Please check departure time with the office when booking.

Tue 5th Knightshayes Decorated for Christmas – National Trust
